In the surrounding area of the Campsite

Parque Natural de la Breña and the Marismas del Barbate (La Breña Nature Park and the Salt Marshes of Barbate).

The Pinar San José Campsite is located in the sparsely-populated area of Zahora, between the sea and the La Breña mountain, beneath a forest of pine-trees with good road connections to Véjer, Barbate and Conil, as well as to the towns of Caños de Meca, El Palmar and Zahara de los Atunes.

The coast has a massive beach which stretches more than 13 kilometres in length running from Conil to Caños de Meca, continuing past the 100 metres-high cliffs of Barbate, with small naturist coves, the beach of La Hierbabuena at the entrance to Barbate and another long line of coast which continues for more than 7 kilometres as far as the seaside town of Zahara de los Atunes. The low-density and low-height of the houses in these areas, mostly detached properties, opens up the opportunity to practise water-sports of every type (fishing, sailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, surfing), where the magnificent beaches have fine white sand, and the diversity of beaches and the privileged micro-climate of the area all add up to make this the ideal place to enjoy all sorts of activities connected with the sea.

Between the sea and the mountains

Let’s talk about the nearby surroundings which you can enjoy even on foot. Located in Zahora next to Caños de Meca, is the Faro de Trafalgar (Trafalgar Lighthouse), famous for the battle of 1805. Close by, we can enjoy the beaches and coves of "Caños", La Aceitera de Zahora or the magnificent beach of El Palmar, which is ideal for the whole family. Behind the campsite are the Parque Natural La Breña and the Marismas del Barbate where up to five different ecosystems are found and some incredible routes such as the footpaths leading across the cliffs.

The closeness of the La Breña Nature Park, an enormous fossilized dune covered entirely by pine-trees cloaked in broom, mastic trees and old olive trees, is reason enough to visit the area at any time of the year. A vast network of forest paths make it the ideal spot to go hiking, mountain-bike riding, horse-riding, animal-watching, collecting mushrooms and asparagus, visiting the Meca and the Tajo watchtowers, etc… In fact, the perfect interior complement for this coastal area.

Enjoy the sunsets, the sun turns into a red incandescent ball and sinks slowly into the sea. Not even the best photograph is able to reproduce the splendour of the setting sun enveloped in red and orange coloured light, as well as purples and pinks. The phenomenon has a name, but doesn't convey the emotion: the Rayleigh effect. Everything ends with the applause of those who have witnessed the sunset and a quiet stroll back.

In nearby surroundings you will find all types of tourist services and leisure activities. See the "Sightseeing" section.
